From Silky: Folks, I've just about had it. People do not come here to read about IRC, AOL or any of the other recent flamebait topics. If this isn't used for K&P/C&C/TGF issues, it is not needed. Please, keep it on topic, or do not post. Oh My God <mystion@geocities.com>

Can TGF import custom plug-ins? If so then TGF should be able to use any plug-in that is made for C&C. If I can get code examples then the plug-in will be inteded for use with 32-bit C&C. If it works then I'll compile a 16-bit version.

Christian:

I had a feeling that it would come down to having a bunch of file conversions just to get the files to play. That's too much work for the user. I'm going to see if I can find some code examples of an MP3 player and put together a plug-in for it.

Hello readers of the wall,

I can see the wall is still alive, barely. There are so many flame wars and problems. Did you know some people blamed me for this when I was around, it may have been true, but even now that I'm gone, the wall is a shambals.
I haven't come to gloat or annoy, but just come to say hello and say I'm doing find pursuingmy own interests.
I am currently involved in a favourite game of mine (GTA) and the making of a website for it. I wish you all a happy new year (a bit late I know) and good luck with all your games.

I'll see you all around sometime,

Stop moaning !

Look, making graphics for games doesn't require any special skills, only training. To make music, you must have a talent, but all it takes is practice when it comes to graphics for games.

I couldn't either draw game-graphics when I started here - but yet I drew everything myself. I got practice, and now I've gotten better. That's the award. You don't have to be a good drawer by hand, allthough that is an asset.

To learn how to draw, try and "copy" of others people work by drawing more or less the same way. I do not mean you should use them in game, but if you do this, you get to learn how they're made and soon you can make them on your own.

Cheers,
Siggen

A board much like the wall, but its like a story line for a game. See i start out, then visitors keep adding to my story untill its big enough for a game.

I will have a members only password page, but it wont have any great stuff, just assignments, questions, and other irongoat news.

Can anyone direct me to a freeware cgi program like this? I need one that has the newest post at the top of the page and one that has the last post at the bottom. thanks.

Re: MP3s with C&C.
YES, it IS possible.

Yianno figured out the way to do this and has it on his page at http://www.oamu.com/~xtreme.

You can indeed use WaveOut with the MCI device. There's only one catch - you have to play a special ACM wave file. ACM is the Microsoft Audio Compression Manager. The other part to that catch is you have to have the MPEG 1 layer 3 compression codec from Frauenhoffer installed. Oh yeah, you have to specially code the wav file too. You can convert from mp3 to this wav. CoolEdit will save as this type of wav, as well as the Frauenhoffer Mpeg Encoder (win95 version only), and the upcoming Goldwave 4.0. If you still want info on MP3, AMP, a freeware decoder with source, is available from ftp://ftp.rasip.fer.hr.

They have tips about how to get your data back, and if you still can't do it, I think they have some sort of a service where they'll try to get it back for you, but It'll cost some money.

MP3s with C&C?

A friend of mine presented me with a challenge: Create an MP3 player with Click & Create. (mostly because he doesn't want to pay for the programs out there) At first I thought that I could use the MCI device to play MP3s. Using the "waveaudio" function. But, that didn't work. I tried all of the other functions just incase and none of them worked either. So I've given up on the MCI device. I've been searcing the web for a tutorials on "MPEG Layer 3" but cannot find any. I'd appreciate some feedback on this. Has anyone else created an MP3 player with C&C? Does anyone have any tutorials, FAQs, etc... on MP3s?

I have a funny feeling that I'm going to have to write my own plug-in for this.

CHEE$EGOBLIN,

making a password system like that causes something called a *CATCH-22* to happen. For example:

The only way you'll know if anyone's made a good game is if they post about it, but they can't post about it 'cause you say they haven't made any good games!

hi all,

I'm sorry to keep rambling on about all this (what did this start out with in the first place...?) but Puggy from now on is called Piggy. And from now on, Chris is called Cool. Gettit? Puggy seemed to get a WHACK out of it when he said his "friend" (friend? he has no friends. it was him) was going to trash...er, crash the wall, and destroy #k&p. But he said..."Who cares about Silky's? We still got the realm"
I have a log. So does Chris.
Right then and there I would've used my almighty power as an IRCop to "kill" him from the server, but I can't use my power for such evildoings...just kidding! Heh...I'm not an IRCop...yet...but nobody cares about that crap. We wanna talk about k&p, tgf, and Cnc!...I think.
Instead of rambling on and on about how to remedy this, I'll just sit here like the educated scholar...er, 6th grade youngsta' that I am.

see ya'll,
Jonathan Michals
(Jon M)

Pee Ess: This post was originally going to be k&p related, but I forgot. So I'll post it here.
* JonM takes a sip of his tea, and takes a bite of a crumpet
I'm sure everyone has made a moron of themselves, and gotten Alice3D...I'm glad I didn't pay...HAH! I'm also glad I didn't download. But I did order a free copy...the effects ruled!!!....but you couldn't do crap with it...that was the problem! So, if an Alice3D program will be integrated INTO Cnc 2 (I think that's kida what'll happen, but I think they'll make their own proggy to do it) you could combine awesome effects and 3D, with actual gameplay. Now, don't get me wrong...this won't let you make the next "Doom" or "Quake" style game...but maybe at the end of a level in yer' side-scrolling game, you could have the view swich to see the front of the character, and have them do a victory dance, or something. That's what was cool about alice 3D. You could make them move without them having true animations. What I mean was, you could type in
"DoInOrder
purpledinosaur.move.rleg.up.knee.jointbend.rleg.up"
and the purple dinosaur (Barney, it was) would move his leg up, bend his knee, and kick...upward. That actual code wouldn't do anything, it was just an example. Okay...I'm finished rambling. In case you forgot who's posting this...

see ya'll (again)

hi people I got something to say so please listen:
3 days back I got an e-mail from silkys saying this:
....
I'm so sorry Rikus, been having machine problems.

Good news and bad news. Got a new PC - bad news, I fear my
4 mth old 6 gig
drive is toast....guess where all the backlogged games where.

I've got one more person I want to look at it before I give it it's last
rights, but as of now...we're caught up....cause they is all on there ;(.

Actually I do have just two or three really recent ones, I'll pop them over
to you soon. If this isn't recoverable, we can post on the wall and let
folks know, but I didn't want to scream too soon.

Thanks for being patient with me, and for all your help.
....

So chris is not the only 1 that has machine problems.

Also I made a new #k&p channel. But there is something special with it. You see you can also access the channel in both netscape/ie4 and mirc. Wow:-)
If you want to access the channel on your browser just go to:
http://www.ap-zone.com/irc.htm
and if you want to access the channel on mirc then point your server to: irc.deltakonzept.de
port: 6667
(It does not work with the dalnet server, so thats why the channel is differend)

Check it out.
bye,

Rikus

Jeff Vance:

Vitalize first downloads the program into the cache. Then runs it. It does *not* run from the server, it runs locally on your computer. Which is too bad because if Vitalize did then the program would be more flexible in terms of server file/directory manipulation functions.

WARNING LONG BUNK POST

The Beta:
I am (was) a beta tester for Corel Click & Create 2.
The product was looking very strong at the end of December when it was transfered to IMSI.
I have asked IMSI if I can release any information about C&C 2.
They have not responded............
I "might" put some info up soon at "http://flyin.com".
What will they do...sue me....my NDA was with Corel.......
I hope IMSI promotes the new version it is very good you will all love it.
To Beta testers: set your system clock back before 1998 to get the expired beta to work again.

NEWBIES:
Why do i keep seeing the newbie issue on the wall?
A password system would KILL THE WALL.
Would I qualify?
I visit here because some of the games and VERY talented programmers give my ideas for my projects with C&C.
Sure my games suck......I use C&C for presentations, training, ect..... for $$$ (only small $ so far) :)

HELP NEEDED....
I am looking for a way to fake "streaming" with the Vitalize plug-in. I have not invested a lot of time yet.., but calling a series of small vitalized applications works well the first time, but goes to fast the second time. I need to figure out how to find out if the user has the files in the cache or needs to download them...

sorry for the long post

Besides, weve been beyond flaming for a few days.

Paul Howerton:

Exactly. My message wasn't intended to be anti-newbies. I was addressing the fact that if over population does set in then seperate interests groups. There might be one site totally dedicated to Vitalize and those who create nothing but Vitalize apps. There might be another site totally dedicated to adventure games. And another dedicated to sims. The melting pot (Silky's) will disappear and everyone will go their seperate ways.

Hey Guys...

I have some bad news, Win 95 (yes, I finally got it) erased everything on my computer. This means all future games are cancelled and will probably never be released, because I had no backups anywhere. This means:

ExtroPlanet
Net-Edit 2
War-Tanks
and The Extacy 2

Will not be released.

Also, I'm very sad to announce (this is the one that hurts the most) Klik & Play Land was erased. Everything I put into it was erased. The graphics, HTML, archives, games, reviews, previews, etc. were all erased, and I had no back up of those either.

PSI will be closing for now, until I can get the computer back online. Right now, I only have Win 95 and Netscape installed (yes, my e-mail is gone too) so it may be a while before I start any more games, get on mIRC, or answer my mail. Right now I have to completely back up these basics that I have, so in case it crashes again, I can just restore it.

P.S.I. is officially closed (opening: unknown)

Goodbye for now.

Paul Howerton

Please....think positive! Think positive this way:

If Silky doesn't put c&c2 stuff up here, then maybe you won't be screwed. And about that password protect system: That is one stupid idea.First of all, it wouldn't work out right. And second, everyone's gonna feel unwelcome here and this site will become less popular. You make a website for people to see, right? And if you make a website and no one else is able to see it,well then, you'd get bored with it and just discontinue the service. And if someone is so concerned about the new guys, make your own site similar to silky's that is totally devoted to C&C2!

All flames must be e-mailed to me at: daddyd@iamerica.net . I'll feel really stupid if you flame me on the wall. Not only will it hurt me, but every one who comes to the wall!

CHEE$EGOBLIN:

When Klik & Play came out the shelf price was aobut $50 - $60. A good amount of money less than $90 - $100. But Maxis did a terrible job of promoting K&P. So not too many people bought it. While Click & Play did cost much more not too many more people bought it. Because the promotion was barely better than it was with Maxis. (the ads I did see for C&C barely told of what it did and were usually in the back mixed with all of the other $5 ads)

I don't think that it really matters how much the program costs. Lots of people are willing to buy a programming alternative such as Click & Create. However, not too many people know that it exists. Both Maxis and Corel, for some reason or another, believe that people will just magically know that K&P and C&C would exist. The main driving force behind their two companies are dealing with well known product names. Sim City has been around for the longest time. And just about every game that Maxis puts out has 'Sim' attached to it. Not doubt just so that it will make people think of Sim City and buy the game in the hope that it is similar. Corel has a whole line of well-known products. All they do every year is come out with new versions. You don't need much advertising for that.

With IMSI it is different. I cannot think of any well known IMSI products off the top of my head. I have an old IMSI mouse sitting downstairs but before I heard that they had picked up C&C2 that was the only time I've heard of them. So one would tend to believe that being a not-so-well known company they would advertise a little more. And this will probably be the case with C&C2.

Now, on to the results. The threat of too many people coming into the community is real. If IMSI does a good job with C&C2 then it over population at Silky's can very likely happen and people will begin to spawn their own sites. But, if IMSI does not advertise well and keeps with tradition then we shouldn't pick up too many newbies this time around. And, keeping with tradition, IMSI will drop the distribution rights to C&C2 to be picked up by someone else. The cycle will start again and this conversation will begin a new in two years.

Flying F***!!!:(
IM LEAVING WEB4FREE. It sucks, and you can never access it... You'd have better luck with neocerf!
Im going to, either fortunecity, xoom, or find some small company to host me.

CHRISTIAN: Do you still use GCS? How do you program stuff for it? The closest ive ever gotten to making any NEW graphics is a new weapons file. I bet if they made a new GCS, in windows, that it would rock my world, babey. yeah, babey. Well, I really hope They make a CnC 3D at least, cause Alice 3D sorta' sucked ex-lax. If only Alice was compileable.

Well, thanks.. If you anyone has any free web hosting news, email me, or post. If anyone has any applications to become a member, either apply at my page which is at : www.web4free.com/irongoat/ , once it gets back on again, or email me a sample program.

***POSSIBLE OUTCOME#1***
Im afraid that Click n Create 2 may bring the end of our wonderful little community. You see, the MSRP is $99.99 US, and the copmany said they would sell it in many stores nationwide. This means that every person who has around 80 bucks can get it almost anywhere. This means that lots of asswipes with no knowledge will be able to come here and eventually turn the wall into total chaos and anarchy.
***POSSIBLE OUTCOME#2*** THE OPTIMISTIC ONE
Im glad that cnc2 is going to cost under 100 bucks, because many new games and guilds may be developed, and eventually Click and create will become as widespread and common as C++. Im not sure how it is in Australia and other major distribution countries, but in the US, none of these products are purchased easily. It takes months of searching. It may not become popular in the US, and that is actually what im hoping for.

Yeah, I've done some stuff in Pie 3D. It was actually very good at the time that it came out, Descent had just come out, back in the mid 90's. I found ways around most of its drawbacks though. The clipart sucked, so I did some of my own art. As-is, there was no save system, so I wrote my own. I've spent hours and hours studying the way P3D works, and know the inner-workings of the program inside out. Believe it or not, it's actually possible to make a save/load feature with BATCH FILES. It won't have an attractive menu system, though, unless you use some other program. Hmm, I think I'll make an addon that lets you use batch files even with a cool menu system.

Oh, and do you guys remember that game Twig that I released the demo of a while ago? Well, the final version's almost done. It's a LOT better. :D
Stay tuned.

WWW.WEB4FREE.COM IS BACK ON AGAIN!!!!!!!
Now you can visit my site at:
http://www.web4free.com/irongoat/

There are a few bugs in my site now, like the fact that my side bar doesnt work... Does anyone know of a good, easy, program to make sidebar buttons?

I also would like to say that PIE 3D GCS is an overall decent system. It does have its MANY MANY drawbacks, but if you would like to make simple games, without any plug-ins or frills, you can make some decent $H1T. <--- Not a curse. I actually belive, and correct me if I'm wrong, that Chris Weil made one of his games in 3D GCS. Well, I used to have it, and at the time, It made state-of-the art games, but now, because of the nasty-ass clip art, they are just something to experiment with. Besides, I DID SAY that it wasn't recommended for anyone other than excellent artists and programmers.

You can also find some decent FREE 3D ENGINES at any given search engine with several keyboards and a little time. I found an excellent site with hundreds of them, but they werent very good, most of them. Well, PLEASE VISIT MY SITE!

Grr. This is insane!

Alright, everyone says they want to stop the flaming. Hypocrites! If you TRULY want to stop the flaming, don't respond, don't even E-mail the person with a response, rude or otherwise. Just forget anyone insulted anyone else. This is a C&C, TGF, and K&P page, not a place to express anger! KNOCK IT OFF.

I saw a comment about AOLers not being cool... I'm on AOL. AOL doesn't stink, because it gives you the Web AND AOL stuff, like cool chat rooms, an easy downloading system and a ton of other stuff, with none of the expected techno jargon. So it has it's problems, it's not like I can get my own account at age 14, geez! Don't judge people by their online service!

BTW, don't take this to heart. I was a little miffed when I wrote this, and it doesn't apply to everybody. DON'T RESPOND IN FLAMES.

Now, to a nicer topic.

Rikus, that comment about everyone having their own tastes regarding Eggit and Dragon's Tail was a wise one. Undoubtedly, some people like Dragon's Tail more, and some like Eggit more. Keep in mind that it isn't a war to see whose game is better. I sincerely hope that you will continue to make great games, regardless of other people's opinions.

Regarding game progress, I've worked mostly on my FPPG for the last week or two, and have covered an incredible amount of ground. I'm hoping this will be my first big finished game. Current features of FPPG:
-Completely original C&C art and MIDI music
-Funky main menu screen
-MYST-like point-and-click interface
-Special things MYST doesn't have, like the ability to pick up items, get item descriptions, talk to people, and open and close things
-"Tip of the Day" upon exit provides you with useful information, like "Don't name your kid Stupid", and "Socks don't fit over ICBMs"
But there's more! E-mail me for more info.

THANK YOU SILKY for being so tolerant of us! :^)

Hi, its me again.
First and foremost,

----------Who runs the #knp page at web4free?----------
------The www server isnt running and its scaring me.---------- ------------Please tell me what happened to it-----------------

Who ever made the IMSI 3D objects comment, heres an analogy thype thing...
Remember when Alice 3D got introduced to this page, and it was causeing a stir? Well, the objects that the program uses are 3D objects. Its like, for something to be a 3D object, it has to have many different perspectives of view.. You know, you can see different angles from one file...

If you are looking for a decent 3D- only engine at a good price, I would try Pie in the Sky's "3D GCS" system... Its around 60 bucks, and you can find it if you do a web search. The only problem is that the actuall engine is a little outdated, and the gameplay is similar to Doom's. It also has bad clip-art, though you can order new sets of clipart through the company, along with many plug-ins, such as a better menu system and save system...

If you are a good artist, I would suggest it.

BIGPAW> IMSISOFT says that itīll support 3d objects. I donīt know what they mean with it. It would just be so great if it could do 3d. I think everybody should take a look at Pedros Day Out at Majestic Realm game library. Itīs a "3d" racing game with a 3d engine idea called E3D. Well the gameplay sucks but anyway..

There is no "cyber-racism" here.. It is an overreactionary concept thought up by an alarmist mind : a single AOL remark which was apologised for does not make someone evil. Get over it.

MusicSK: I cannot draw a spaceship, but whatever you come up with is fine. If you've ever played HYPERNOVA or Zodiac by Havoc, it'll give you an idea on how my ship would like to be. I'll try, tho.

===---=== None Related IRC Crap ===---===

Oh by the way, Pug: I found a log with you rambling about free speech and how there was no limits to free speech as guarenteed by the First Amendment.

Here's the UNALTERED Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Notice it say "CONGRESS" and no "LAWS".

So, I am afraid your arguement had a few holes in it.

I'm the guy you're looking for, and I was sure to include your name both in the game credits (event editor comments) in all 3 demos, and in the included engine.txt file. You can download the 3 demos and text file from the Majestic Realm via the URL of http://sadwick.simplenet.com/majestic/games.hts?+new

Unfortunately you won't really be able to see the improvements and changes in coding that I made unless you have TGF or CnC, or if you find someone with both KnP and CnC/TGF that is willing to copy the code one event at a time :P

My "Project:Irongoat" page is up!
The url is http://www.web4free.com/irongoat/
So far it only has:

- Screen shots from the following games: SimPimp, Lone Crag, which is our main product.
- Application Page, where you can apply to become a member via form.
- Mail Page. (Self Explanatory)
- Front Page, which just has a logo and a link script.

My friend who makes Visual Basic 4 games and 3D graphics is merging with us. I basically just make some of the graphics, but no coding, and he does the rest.

One last note: We were going to make a message wall, but since web4free doesnt allow cgi, i will either have to use another server(can you help me out, Chris W?), or wait for Rampage/Neocerf to reply :Þ

P.P.S. I think there should be one awesome message board linked from all of the knp pages, for all knp/tgf/cnc'ers to use. That would be cool. uh huh huh huh.

Man....you all actually believed someone was gonna screw up the wall?OH MAN!Pug was just doing that to scare you all.It was the wrong thing to do, but, you guy's responses were pretty funny.Plus, remember what I said about not caring about what happens on IRC? If something were to happen, we'd get it back, probably! And stop saying,"This community is falling apart" Gee,I wonder why.......it wouldn't be that way IF YOU DIDN'T THINK THAT WAY!GAH!The nerve of some people.

Anyways,I've found new interests computer and non-computer related, so I'm probably gonna do the wall and knp-thang sparingly. The reason is this:

Blackout's Box. http://www.blackout.com/ <-- Phone Cranks(Yes,Cranks, same thing as prank) but are very long pranks. And aren't your stupid little, "Is your refridgerator running" pranks, and not yo' Jerky Boys pranks either.Ever heard of Roy Mercer?Like that only better.Really talented guy does really good voices.

Onlive Traveler.A 3d chat program where you talk to other people through the microphone while walking around a virtual realm.

And one of my main interests, making comedic sketches with a Mic and a tape recorder. And recording my guitar playing, too.

Sorry about the NEARLY non-knp post, but to make up for it,I'll say a little ditty about knp:

If you put your mind to it, you can(Eh...Nike), make anything, or if not, at least fake or simulate, most things in knp.Just look at all the new techniques that keep popping up!Wow.

Oopsie, I didn't read Craig's message. From now on, I'm postin' K&P-related only. Unless someone starts posting 'msk sucks' messages. :o)

By the way, I'm thinking about making a type of game like Star Control, that is, where both players choose from about 8 spaceships with different weapons and special powers, as well as different crew (life), speed, and fuel, and duke it out on a starfield... only with all the K&P'rs (including AOL'rs :o)) having their own starships. Sooo.... anyone want to pilot a starship? :D

Well, Pug and all the other assorted Jeremiahs have been going on about destroying #K&P, and Silky's, and all those other things, since time immemorial. (Don't believe me? The topic in #knp was 'Henceforth... a couple of hours... #K&P... will fall...' for about, oh, a year.) Why believe them now?

Stacy: Well, I know how to say "Male chauvinist pig" (don't ask, hehe) and "Hello" in Irish... I'll e-mail you sometime.

Everytime I go on irc as "IronGoat", everybody instantaneously goes off... is this because you hate me, or just some kind of technicall error, or a coincidence?

Well, IronGoat is going slowly... Nobody is really helping, and i still am trying to learn to use Bryce2 without having to rip my hair out.

Does anyone know of any free webservers that allow cgi scripts?

I just found out that my school can buy CnC for 100$ so if you want it you got it... I know you might not trust me(even though you should), so incase you don't, you can also get all three of the at Europress.co.uk

Hey Andrew you made a battle system? Cool, could yah send it to me? Oh if your wondering what happened to my page I've tooken it down, I'm building a new one. Don't worry about the wall being flooded. This info came from one of the most unreliabe source on the internet, i.e. Pug. The Portuguess was pretty convencing though. Remember that Pug has no friends, so what friends would he have to flood the wall? His imagination! He's always tring to get us going if you've noticed.

From Silky: Folks, I've just about had it. People do not come here to read about IRC, AOL or any of the other recent flamebait topics. If this isn't used for K&P/C&C/TGF issues, it is not needed. Please, keep it on topic, or do not post.

Thankyou, post about interesting stuff, avoid flamebait lamers, come to #k&p and just make some games so we HAVE something to talk about.. :o)

listen people, this AOL homo won't bomb this place, cause if he does silky will just erase it and everything will be fine. And david, to defend #K&P you need to do nothing. IRC has operators that will kline, so don't have a hernia if some freak comes and does something to the chan (yeah, right, like AOLers know anything)

In K&P related stuff, I am makin a game that like my other trillion, won't be finished, but it is an RPG, but I did manage to get a fully working combat system that functions almost identical to the one on FF7. it is cool.

I'll see ya later

Sorry, but the entire don't post above this line bit didn't work. You're all saying silky's is dying. Guess what? It wouldn't be if it weren't for the people who keep say it's dying. We were doing well for a while, then people just kept bringing up "well, I don't think there should be all this flaming here" when there hadn't been in the first place for a few days. Look, PLEASE STOP POSTING ABOUT ANYTHING UN K&P/TGF/C&C RELATED! Almost everything now people are complaining about is all the trash on the site. Guess what? When you're messing with the wall, you're messing with the KNP community. There are lots of people in it, and if you mess with the wall there will be a lot of pissed people out there. Including me. And even though some say that the community is "falling apart" or "breaking up", most of us will be on the same side this time. (Isn't there a speech from Independence Day that sounds like this?) I'll do whatever I can to try and defend the wall.
SO DON'T MESS WITH IT!

And if something DOES happen to it, I put the blame on whoever did it... and puggy, for not talking his "friend" out of it. Isn't it a crime or something if you don't try to stop a crime when you know it's gonna happen? Well, whatever happens, I'm on the good guy's side.

Enough of this meaningless rambling post.

Allrighty pug... let's see how I am on my portuguese... it's been a while, I'm proficient in spanish, german, portuguese, and a little french, but it's been years since I've tried the latter two.
-----
First post:
"Today is the wall's D-Day. The Omega, a very stupid AOLer will bring the end. There is no escape. Have a nice last day."

Second post:
"Oh yeah, don't bother banning me, it's pointless.
And if any #k&p ops are reading this, ban ken hughes, he was being very vulgar."
-----
Hmmm. Again, my Portuguese is really rusty, so please excuse the translations if they're not accurate. Anybody else here speak Portuguese that can verify?

Oh and Silky, don't worry, the second I notice the wall is flooded, I can check the guestlog, and get this guy's AOL IP. From there, it can be traced back to his screen name by AOL, since it's also timestamped. Once we get his screen name, we get all his info, and criminal charges can be brought forth, if this guy does in fact flood the wall.

Take care all,
Christian

Read this:

"Terry" signed up for an ISP that promised free access forever for only $10.00. "Terry" never got the access.

And this:
"Jimmy" sent money to "Simplindxas Corp." because they said that he would get DIRT CHEAP SOFTWARE. HE visited their web site and it said that the way they can give it to it's customers cheaper is because they BUY IT WHOLESALE. HA!!! HA HA HA HA HA!!!. It also said that software in stores such as CompUSA and Egghead software cost so much because they prices are increased OVER 100% when they are really increased a fraction of that amount. Jim didn't know that so he thought "Wow!". After about a month, "Jimmy" still hadn't gotten anything, but his check had been cashed. So, he called the company and they said that they got there software from "Centraluxind Software ladada". So, he called them and they said that they DO NOT do business with "Simplindxas Corp.".

"Jimmy" and "Terry" both lost there money. This neocerf thing has nothing to do with money, but I just put these here to think about. And, IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS.

Have any Bubble Bobble / Snow Brothers type games been made with KnP, TGF or CnC ?

I don't understand the whole object group thing in CnC.
If I set a condition that happens to an object of a group, and then apply actions to that group, all the objects belonging to a group are affected! But I don't want that. What I want is for the action to only be applied to the single object in the group which has met the condition. Does that make sense? Can someone better explain how to get it to work the way I want to?

The Expert

Cheese Goblin, I've bee using DOS screen capture programs for years!

Here's some info for everybody...

"multitasking" is a concept that simply means - performing more than on task a a time. The PC isn't technically a multitasking computer. When Windows is performing "multitasking", it's just running your programs in successive "frames" (one after another) within a loop.

It just happens so fast, that it seems like all of your programs are running at the same time.

This is the way all programs work.

In fact, in the same sense that Windows works, games are "multitasking" programs. Sure, it seems like many things are happening at once in a game, but actually, they're not.

Here's another interesting concept: Windows 3.X is a native DOS program, yet it's a "multitasking" environment.

Therefore, windows is no more a multitasking environment than DOS is.

DOS can multitask. Screen Capture programs for DOS are TRS (Terminate Stay Resident)programs. They are executed and then stay resident in memory (just like Windows programs)while you run other programs.

Hardware drivers that are loaded up from your computer's autoexec.bat during start-up also work that way!!!

So what does all of this have to do with C&C, K&P, and TGF?

I'm sure you will be able to figure that out whenever you are working in the Event Editor!!!

Christian Wiehl
cw@oamu.com, - Tuesday, January 13, 1998 at 01:25:28 (CST)

Yeah, there are many dos screen capture programs out there... I actually wrote one that captured to PCX files a few years ago, back when DOS was popular... Screen Thief is one of the best, but if it's not working, for your situation I'd recommend getting an emulator that supports screen capture internally.

Oh Cheesegoblin, I checked out your racing thing, the one problem that I found is that it stops making tracks after a while because you run out of active objects, instead of leaving the objects there for a while, paste them into the background - that way, the tracks will be permanent, and you won't have active object problems.

- Christian

Josh
- Tuesday, January 13, 1998 at 00:15:14 (CST)

Chesse$Goblin, you are so wrong. There are many DOS screen rippers. What it does is load the program into memory, a TSR. Working on a racing engine like the one from those 80's SEGA games like Outrun and Hangon. Got some great ideas for it.

The NeoCerf web host sounds great, but a little on the scammish side.

This is for whoever asked for a dos screenshot program...
Dos is a SINGLE TASK ENVIRONMENT! It isn't possible.
If you want one for Win 3.1, try screen ripper, (I forgot the URL).

My suggestion would be, just do what THE MAN wants, and pay your 90 bucks for Win 95, or download it somewhere (not recommended).

Hey guys

Can someone tell me of a screen-capturing program for ***DOS***?? I have already tried Printscreen, didn't work. And since I'm not running Win 95, I can't run the prog in windows and use PSP. I have tried 1 screencapture utility called Screentheif, but it won't work. I am trying to get some screenshots of Gameboy roms. I am using Virtual Gameboy 0.46 I think.

Thanks!!

And I don't see why people hate AOLers. It's like C++ programmers bashing KNPers. Just because they are using something easier. I acually tried AOL for a 15-hour-trial period, and immediately cancelled when I got the long distance bill. THEN I got the internet connection. It was cheaper, and I liked it a lot better. Another thing: any AOLers bashing AOL bashers are just as bad.

OK, a couple of questions to answer here...

To make the car skid, set up a condition that checks:
1. the speed of the car (if > whatever)
2. Player 1 turns left (with the joystick or whatever)

Then for the event, create little black active objects over the wheels (they would have to be set relative to the car), and paste them into the background, do this about 15 times, then destroy them.

Msk, for your blocks thing, what you could do is upon creation of a certain color of block, set its value A to a number, like red=1, yellow=2, blue=3, on and on. Then when they collide with another block, set another value equal to the sum of the numbers of the blocks that are currently touching. You can constantly check that number, and use the mod operator to detect which blocks are currently in sequence.

As for speed... the reason C&C is slower than C++, assembly, and even BASIC is because C&C is scripted. The actual runtime of C&C is written in C++, but the runtime executable reads the CCA file, and has to process it line by line. It has to read a line of code from the CCA, parse it, figure out what it means, and then execute it, probably using a bunch of "if" or "case" statements. Basic is slower than C++ for the same reason, most basic runtimes are scripts. Visual Basic, up to version 5, was a definite script, because you can decompile vb programs and get the original source code.

Anyway, I've rambled on enough, talk to you all later...

Josh

Here's something for people to think about. How much more powerful would K&P, C&C, TGF, be if you could actually control things from the event editor like pallete and size of the graphics. If that was possible you could easily write a 3d engine with light sources and lighting effects and the works. Maybe not true 3d, but you could do that.

KidHype

Myston:Its been like that forever. When I first started coding in BASIC back in 1984 I was laughed at by Assembly coders cause BASIC was a beginners language and you cant make squat out of a BASIC program (it feels soooo good now to know that Bill Gates only knows BASIC and very little C)

When I learned Pascal back in 1987, I was laughed at by C coders. To this day I dont know why they laughed at me, they are equal languages as far as speed and complexness...well..ok Pascal is alot more simpler than C but then again C is still tons easier than Assembly

Which brings me to my current point...CNC being laughed at by Visual C++ users. I have yet to encounter that and if you ask me I have always lived by the notion...if you can make an exe out of it..who cares what language it was developed in. I have passed Quick Basic programs off as C programs just cause of the speed. My thing is, if you think you are so much better than someone else just cause you actually code then live in your own world.

I am just out to have fun and play games. I am not in a pissing contest with anyone

Hope that helps :)

Kidhype...
For some sick twisted reason, that reminds me...

Why in the world would anyone make fun of a CNC user or something because they use C++.. is it because C++ is a CODE and CNC is EASY? It seems to me, they both create some quality games, and if you really put your mind to it, CNC games can be BETTER!

Sooo... I like cats.

Hi,

musicsk:Take a look at my game Cotton (http://www.fishnet.net/~bsmith/graficom.html)and maybe that will help. Its not protected but it does do a check feature to see if a whole row of objects are the same before removing the row. This game was very hard to make and still has unfixable bugs due to the limits of C&C (it was originally dont in TGF...which still has a ton of bugs too as of version 1.03) which brings me to my next question

What in the hell did they fix in 1.04...the high score object still doesnt work...let me know Sprite...thanks :)

K&P vs The rest:The only advantage that K&P has over everyone else that its stable. But even that isnt 100% true. When I made Eat&Run, towards the end of coding, it would crash everytime I made a change to the code..not add to the code. So basically I had to save, make the change, let it crash, restart, make the change, save..you see the loop. The other 2 (TGF and C&C) crash because the logic testing is flawed (logic=doing if condition is true then do this else do something else). You couldnt pay me to go back to K&P due to the fact that you get the same bugs as K&P plus a thousand helpful things (Like groups...the best feature ever...screw scrolling) Yeah you can do MOST of the same things in K&P as you can with the others but why write a program in slow clunky basic when you got C? Plus, creating 100 flags using counters is not my idea of fun.

By the way: In the process of a major overhaul of the Hype Zone. Check it out and tell me what ya think

Brad: You could have the "bullet" object hidden outside the playing area and when you shoot you simply set the position of it to where you want it to start and start it's movement. When it collides with something stop it and put it back outside the playing area again. That way it you can keep it behind the other objects.

Newman (jared) <SUPERJB@aol.com>
- Sunday, January 11, 1998 at 11:23:23 (CST)

WAIT A MINUTE! IT IS POSSIBLE BRAD!!!! First set an active object with movement bouncing ball. Set its view to back. Then, take away the conditions that say "bounce". Then, when you shoot, set the x and y coord of the object being shot to the x and y coord of the object shooting. Set direction of the object being shot to the direction of the object shooting. It WILL WORK!

Hi y'all. I've just got a quick question.

Does anyone know how to make a puzzle game wherein there is a movable pump at one side of the screen, that spits out random colors of 32x32 blocks that hit either the edge of the grid or another block and stop, and finally that checks if two like blocks "sandwich" a whole bunch of other blocks, and if so, destroy all of them? :P In other words, if you spit out the sequence of blocks Blue-Green-Yellow-Blue, all of those would be destroyed.

The only method I can think of is upon collision, spit a certain type of active object to the left (the pump can only rise and fall down one side, not go along the top or bottom) that upon collision with a like object 1) destroys the like object 2) starts going the other way, destroying everything in its path 3) stopping whenever it smacks into the first like object. But for some strange reason, this is one of those things in C&C that should but doesn't work. :P I could send what I have -- if you want to take a gander, e-mail me at musicsk@hotmail.com -- thanks :)

Sean Poling <suprelfman@aol.com>

Brad:

Like Brian said, Knp does not include a feature for changing an object's 2 dimensional depth. There is a technique to use to do it if you choose to though. In order to do this you can test for a collision between the two objects (I'll call one of them 'item', and one of them 'something', then create the object 'item' you want in front, on top of itself, then delete it.

So what ends up happening is that the first 'item' will be destroyed (that had the collision), and the 'item' you created on top of it will take its place, but as the top level object.

Brad:

No, this is not possible with K&P. When a new object is created (i.e. shot from another object) it is automatically set to the front. This was a very annoying fault in K&P. And everyone was glad when C&C allowed us to change the layer postion of objects at run-time.

Actually I think that the reason the Dragons Tail zip file is about 10 megs is because of the avi files. An eight meg cca file will be about half the size when saved as a stand alone application (the cca in Critters 2 is 7,6 megs and the zip file is 3,5). This is because C&C compress the file when saved as stand alone. However avis are stored externally and I don't think they are compressed. Anyone who have done some more indepth studies of C&C's storing methods who could verify this?

Another interesting fact: How many knows that giving the gameobjects one character names like "a", "3", "x" instead of things like "Active object 12", "Quick backdrop 5" and "little alien with big gun" will make the finished game smaller. It's just a few bytes but it could be usefull to know when making Vitalize applications.

Hello,
Welcome back Zack. Well the problem with Dragons tail is that
some of the fans of the old eggit games hated dragons tail but
most of the fans loved it and people that hated eggit loved dragons tail. Everyone has a differend kind of taste. I like "dt"
more then eggit 1,2 ,gold but thats just my taste. I wanted to make dt differend because there where already so many differend eggit clones. The other problem is that its so big. This is not because of the avi files, but the game itself (the cca file is a big 8 mb)I think this is because of all the voices and backgrounds. Also I noticed that younger players did not like dt because of what the skulls said when you kill them. But I tought that was funny:-)

I am going to start working on "taking over" again today. It will be maybe 1 of the last freeware games of ap in 1998.
(i will be working on locked 7 100% this whole year to finish it)

Good luck with your new eggit game zack. I also have a new idea for a new puzzle game maybe I will make that in the weekends it will be a small game but fun to play.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
bye,

Rikus

THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN CnC THAT KnP has, other that price, is that you get the "twiggy" character in the lib files :)

Heh.. with Zack back online, all we need now is Ambrosine, Havoc, Cragmyre, Rikus posting more regularly and Dave Willis releasing a Walkerton game and we'd be back to what we were a year ago, and everyone would be happy.. =)

Oh yeah, we also need Chase hyping a game, Alex coining an EL3DC phrase, a new Eggit game and Virtually Real recruiting complete unknowns who turn out to be geniuses..

Umm.. Yeah.. just showing my age.. :o)

Hi. This is my first time posting here. I just downloaded the demo of K&P the other day and I have a few questions.
First of all what are the differences between K&K and C&C? This is a stupid question I know but I hope you guys are not like most message boards and take pleasure in taunting me for my hopeless ignorance. :)
Second, how much does the full version cost? I can't seem to find anything about the price for K&K or C&C.
Third, The kind of games I really want to create are role playing games. The only games that I have seen available as shareware and freeware that were made with this program are arcade puzzle platform and a few small fighting games. They were really cool and I enjoyed playing them but RPGs are my thing. Is it possible to make role playing games with this program? There are not enough features on the demo for me to tell.
The last thing I wanted to ask is if it is possible to save a game or access the help feature on the demo. I cannot seem to do this.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I apologize again for my ignorance.

Hi KNPer's. I bet you are reading this.

Ever since I first heard of KNP in October '97 (was it that month?) I heard of Klik 'N Play. I wanted to get it so I could make my own games, and put them on the Internet. But...

...I tried calling 1-800-33-MAXIS (Warning! Don't call that) to get Klik 'N Play. They said, "It isn't for sale right now. Please call later." Then, I went to the software store and looked for Klik 'N Play. It was not there. TGA Software (consists of me, TGA stands for The Game Arcade) needs your help!!! Please tell me the answer to this question:

Where can I get Klik 'N Play?

I will check back here tomorrow at 10:00 AM.

Thank you,

Danny Burger c/o TGA Software.

P.S. TGA DOES NOT want C&C/TGF due to their expensive prices.

P. P. S. TGA will be a 1-person corperation (consists of me.) Also I will try to put the site on www.tne.net/tga/ (Don't go there yet. I will post here when it is up.)

Wow a k&p legend! Zach Fowler. I would suggest you try the Exctasy, http://www.netline.com/psi , a great Eggit clone. Yes Dragon's Tail stunk. My Opinion. Eggit 2 was the best one. I'm working on a cool Eggit clone that I plan to add some great features to it, it'll be an online game that saves high scores so you can compete against other people.

Brad, put an event
Always, then pick the object being shot and set it has animation bring to back, or use the same thing but put the object that shoots the other object to always stay in front. Kinda hard to explain.

Does anyone know if it's possible in KNP to have an active object shoot and active abject that stays in the "back" view?

Zack Fowler <antanric@aol.com>
Chicago, IL USA - Saturday, January 10, 1998 at 16:37:02 (CST)

Okay, I'll keep this short as possible.

First, yes, I'm back... again. Hopefully this time I'll stay. I won't be very active, but I will try to get on at least once a week to keep you posted on progress of my games.

Second, I see that Dragon's Tail is out. Is this really Eggit 4? Or just a spin-off? I read in Rikus' summary that you could stop bouncing and shoot... this disturbs me, because the main reason I created Eggit was to make a whole new genre of puzzle games. And part of Eggit was that you... well, you were a bouncy egg, not a dinosaur. Bouncy dinosaurs?

But I haven't played the game yet, and so am not quite justified in complaining. And since the game is a whopping 1.8 hour download, it might be a little while before I do play. So please excuse any wrong assumptions I have made. Not that I'm saying the game will be bad. I'm sure it's a great game, and I'll download it as soon as possible. So, please, don't flame me.

Meanwhile, I've started working on an old project and a new project; FPPG (First Person Puzzle Game), and Eggit-X. FPPG will be like Myst, only you pick up things and talk to people. Eggit-X will be like Eggit, but with cool stuff like enemies you bounce on to destroy, ability to bounce low, and others. Ideas would be appreciated, however, graphics and music are not needed.

Right on, Zeitgeist.

So many people think that they can make A good game just by putting in some HUGE EXPLOSIONS that explode into a myriad or burning cinders, each anit-aliased and z-buffered, and that's not the way to go.

It's been said that, "The best game is not the one on the screen, its the one that you cause to go on in the player's head."

I think the most important quality in a game is it's ability trigger "dispension of disbelief" within the player. That means that the game makes the player forget that he or she is playing a game. I believe that all game designers should keep this in mind as they are developing their games.

A great game keeps it's players hooked by throwing in just the right balance of graphics, sfx, music, special effects, humor, obstacles, and other interesting gimmicks.

Hello,

Raycast v2.0 Engine is finished, included is 3 demos (in CCA format, loadable in CnC/TGF). The first demo could probably be done in Knp too, but I don't have it anymore, so used CnC. The second demo uses the mixer object for 3D sound, so I believe it would be the only one not possible in CnC, if anyone has both TGF/CnC and Knp and would like to convert I would be very happy ;)

You can find it at the Majestic Realm (http://sadwick.simplenet.com/majestic/index.hts) in the new games section, or use this direct link: http://sadwick.simplenet.com/majestic/games/engine.zip, its 273K total for three CCAs, and one text file I believe.

Well... to tell you the truth, I'm not making any game that has a main purpose of sex. See, I recently got CNC and wanted to test it out...so I'm remaking a game for the C64.. like I always do.. called Cock'in. It's about Chickens.. Cockin? CockING.. Cock-a-doodle-doo... you dig now? :)
Well, you are a little rooster dude, and the object is to protect your hubby's eggs from evil enemy ... animals that eat eggs.. Soooo.. in the old version, you were happy little rooster dude, clucking about, and the hen-house is in the middle. You gotta go into the hen house and wait for the sound file to be complete. Everytime it is completed a little heart appears at the top of the screen. The more hearts, the more eggs. Then, when you press a button, you and the hen leave, and the hen goes above the house and lays eggs... If you see a weasel or something, you have to stop your love-making and come on out to peck 'em.

Actually Kidhype, the mouse buttons DO work in 320*200 mode. You have to make you own object though and set it up has mouse movement. Then in the event editor put when user presses say fire button one (which is the equivelant to the left mouse button) this event happens. Wow I'm actually posting here a lot again. It's pretty fun when theres no flames and you can make stupid comments and people pay attention to them. He, he. AND SILKY. I really praise you for putting up with us. Craig:Thanks for your advice. Whats a good boss size...64x64 or 32x32...the boss wouldnt have to move fast or move at all (maybe have stuff shooting from him instead.

Anyone have any suggestions on this one?

Also, i currently have a 5x86 133mhz with 20megs of ram but i plan on upgrading to a p166 mmx with 32megs of ram and a Diamond Video Card (dont ask which one cause i forgot and the specs are around here somewhere). Am I going to run into the same problems that i have with my old quick basic programs (meaning...will my games run too fast on my new machine when i get it). What can I do to avoid the problem on a fast computer?

I know i am asking alot of dumb questions here but to me the 320x200 mode is like re-learning C&C all over again. I've already found out that the mouse buttons dont work and i get no pre-made cursor in this mode. I want to know the limitations before I start using it. It does, however, have lots of potental

Thanks everyone for their help!

Chris I would have to disagree with you. There is no official license for freeware that could be voided. Unless hes releasing it with CNC, which it might void his commercial license. Well anyway I think a sex game would be rather distasteful especially with a name like Cockin'. Come on at least name it titin' :)

Craig Jardine <jardine@ruralnet.net.au>
- Thursday, January 08, 1998 at 23:15:52 (CST)

Kid,

Well, by far the best sprite size to use is 16 x 16, as it gives you a decent sized character as well as allowing plenty of room for the characters to move. the ITP2 demo is an example of this, and the sprite sizes used in that also work well in a full multidirectional scrolling environment. The maximum for large sprites should be 32 x 32

As far as slowdown, well that depends on your computer. Many people complained that the ITP2 demo ran to quickly on their computer, but as it was made on a 486 I pushed in as much as I could before the speed became too low. I'm doing the full version on a P II 233 MMX and I expect that people with low-level computers aren't gonna be able to play it (I know that it won't work too well on a 486)

Just design the game around your computer, but test it on other speed computers so you have an idea who can play it the way it was designed, and who will miss out..

Thanks,

Craig

Ok, the war has seemd to have stopped.
Good. :)

Paul, you can't do ice movement just by lowering the deceleration bar. The player could always just change directions instantaneously, which isn't realistic at all on ice. You need to add some extra lines in the event editor to ignore control while the player slows down enough to turn around.

I might start on a game (with KNP, I don't have TGF or C&C) set for release near Christmas 98. I won't tell any details until (if) it gets to around 70% completion, because I hardly ever finish any games.

I think that in responce to Dave Willis' earlier post (this may be looking quite dated, but I don't come on often) I have to pitch in a vote for Gameplay, and SFX. I find that many people have trouble making their own SFX (I may be wrong, but I certainly do), but they add a dimension that is very important. Bad SFX can ruin almost anything, and SFX that don't suit also make messes, It cannot be stressed enough that sound is a vital part of any game. GAMEPLAY: A topic that can be sketchy in its simplest form, gameplay basically means control, but that control can be of many things. Generally try to keep the gameplay easy to access, if a game is fast and needs alot of reflex (like some platforms) make it very simple. If you make a very slow moving games (turn based strategy) you can stuff details in with a vegeance. or if you want an in between action ("Story of Thor" on megadrive) put in a couple in teresting bits, but keep it moving.
A word to keep in mind is FLOWING if it flows then people wont get fed up. that word spells the difference between stuff like Dungeon keeper and This Means War (haven't heard of it? not surprised)

please excuse my use of comercial titles in this post, but I haven't played through many games on this site, and I think that the titles mentioned help make my point

Probally my favorite aspect of games are:

Music (w/o music, you don't FEEL the game. Ya dig?)
Plot

Well, yeah. Sound and graphics can't make or break a game, just better or worsen the experience.

Well, I can sense the demise of this page coming. We've been told not to flame, talk off topic, et al., but we do not stop. And that's too bad. If everyone had ONE IOTA of respect for everyone else, this would be insured. But, we don't.

Constant "my game is better than yours" and "your game sucks like yesterday's trash" attitudes not only degrade others, but degrades the entire Knp community as a whole. It's really sad that you can find the word "flame" in a dictionary. Why?

"Virtual Racism" thrives here. You'd think when you put a visual barrier between people that they would play nice and not judge based on some little thing, but WE always find a way. So what if someone uses s certain server? Does it make them stupid and conformist?

I am not pointing any fingers, nor am I trying to repremand anyone, because that would be hypocritical. I'm merely bringing to light some of the issues that need to be dealt with if expect to see this magnicent page any longer.

Enoguh from me.

These are my favorite aspects to a game: Music(where would games be without it? Endless boop boop boop boop... old technology), Humor(entertains the player, gameplay(without it, you've probably wasted your time) and plot(critical for RPGs and other plot based games.). That's about it.^_^

Humor. Now that's an aspect of gaming I like that I forgot to mention. Heh heh.

I agree with the discussion on character size. A character isn't fun if it's too small, or if it's too big either. If it's too small, there's a real sense of distance between the player and the character, and the immersement into the game is less. If it's too big, not only can the player not see where the heck he/she's going, but the game can get uncomfortably choking.

The rules for character size on K&P and TGF/C&C differ, from my experience. In K&P, your character has to be relatively small so that you can fit an entire level on a single screen width. In TGF, you can make the character much bigger, but don't overdo it. ;)

A good example of both extremes can be Roo 1 and GTS3. In Roo 1, Roo was quite dinky in size. But because of this, the levels had the potential to be pretty complex, if a little distanced from the player. GTS3's beta has a great large animated Gordon to hop around in. Unfortunately, he hogged a good deal of the viewable play area, making it difficult to play. Yet the levels had more potential due to the ability to scroll, which was utilized in the level design well.

In Walkerton 4, I've made Walkerton's sprite roughly 45 pixels high, so when the full-screen mode is on, he's hopefully a comfortable size. Another thing to note is the proportions of the character's body parts. If he's extremely short and pudgy with a gigantic head, you'll want to make him smaller than if he's "realistically" proportioned. This is because if he's short and dumpy like a child, the objects will want to be bigger in relative size to him than the adultish character. If the level objects are too big, there's less room on the viewable screen for platforms and such, bringing us back to that comfortability thing.

Well, I've rambled on long enough, and I'll stop now, I guess. All the above isn't to be taken as Gospel, only what I've personally experienced. :)

I think that constant flamers shouldn't be allowed, and If silky's web page detects thier computers login number they get booted off.

Well, Dave, because my mind has been taken over by nutty thoughts,I'd say humor. But because I'm now taking a look back at my previous attempts at games(there is like,13 of em) I say gameplay.A long time ago,I was making a game in knp.4 problems with the gameplay:

1. You controlled 2 guys the size of a quarter of the screen.
2. It didn't scroll.
3. You got caught in platforms.
4. The movement wasn't realistic.

Those all made me give up.Never make a game that has the above 4 planned for it,cuz boy,if you ever release it,you're in a world of trouble with gameplay like that. Here's some tips for improving your game's gameplay if it is a platformer:

1. If your guy shoots, keep his gun raised all the time in all the animations.Shooting animations give's your shooting capabilities hell.I'm serious, anims get stuck like that all the time if you give your guy shooting anims. To see what I'm talking about, play a Walkerton game.Walkie's shooting anim gets stuck every time!
2. Try and make your character no larger than 45 X 55. A small character is a good character.Atom Boy is the perfect size for a platform game. You can tell if you have a big guy if he's 60 X 60
or more.Trust me,this causes problems.
3. If you have platform movement: Set the deceleration bar to Maximum. It's best to have a character who stops immediately. You don't want no slidin' characters.Which brings up an interesting idea.....
4. If you want your character to slide as if on ice , You can do this easily.Bring the slider down to the half point of the deceleration bar.Make sure the acceleration is just a tad more than the deceleration level. Now if the player accidentally gained too much speed, he'll just be slip-sliding away! You can always change the expected slide distance by fooling around by increasing the acceleration, and decreasing the deceleration.Or vice versa.
5. Have lotsa effective powerups for the player to find.Increases playability.

Well hopefully my tips will help you.Bye!

OK... keeping stuff on topic... Forgetting the past... Not posting a lengthy off-topic apology...

In response to Dave Willis' question a while back.

My favourite part of game making is the humour. Humour is the best gimmick for a game I reckon. It's right up there with 3D graphics and 80's style gameplay. And also the music. I'm only into that because I write it therefore I notice other people's compositions or choice of public domain stuff...

Sorry about anything, btw.
